APRIL 1999 NEWSLETTER

Greetings, Peace, and Light.

I know this edition is late, long past what has been established as the publication date. I thank all of you who wrote asking what was wrong, and I apologize to the advertisers for the delay.

For the Astrologically minded, at my normal publication time I was experiencing a once-in-thirty-years transit of Saturn over my natal Mercury, and suffered a mind meltdown. The following week I was in Maryland.

What I had written back then I would not send out based on events in Kosovo and Colorado, and will not publish at this time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In Volume 1 of this Newsletter we looked at the circle of life and the path to change. Since Life consists of circles and spirals, we are back once again with the Sun entering Taurus facing our new and changed Values, those things that are important to us.

Honoring and being grateful for everything that we have is an essential and empowering part of our lives. I would therefore like to begin this time by acknowledging those things for which I am truly grateful.

First I thank you, all of you who are part of this rapidly expanding circle, and everyone who has passed the newsletter on to others. Each month many people ask to join the circle based on being given copies by current members.

You not only make the work possible, but by your efforts and feedback, you make it worthwhile. May I be able to do as much for you on your paths as you have done for me on mine.

Bless you all.

Secondly, thank you and deep appreciation to everyone who wrote to me with such positive input to last month's newsletter. Yes it was a big change in my writing style as many of you noted, and definitely the desire to share with each of you the Spring Equinox Celebration and what it is like to do the Sacred Circle, or Medicine Wheel.

I will be doing a Sweat Lodge in May, plus a whole weekend of celebration and ceremony around the Summer Solstice in June, both of which I will share with you who cannot participate directly.

I am especially humbled and grateful for the trust placed in me, for allowing me to remember and re-experience the life of Grey Wolf, and all who were a part of that time.

Although at times it has been more curse than blessing, all of the many lives and the wisdom associated with them has shown me a bigger picture and direction, and given me my path.

This is the time of looking at Values.

If it is true that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, what then is the burden of those who do remember it and see the inevitable happening once again?

Have we taken acceptance of life as it is manifested for us to such an extent that we would simply condemn ourselves to an inescapable result rather than let go?

Letting go. It sounds so simple, yet causes such deep and profound fear.

Believing in yourself. Knowing that you can make a difference . . . in both your lives and the lives of everyone.

Life is truly a paradox.

I know that is not news nor even profound.

Right now it is especially true.

As the Sun has entered the sign Taurus, it is appropriate to talk of Values. This we looked at as part of the understanding of the Journey that is Change, that leads to self-discovery.

That was last year.

We have come a long way since then.

Now we can see the new Path, the higher octave of the Journey, the next curve on the upward spiral.

We are now above where we were this time last year, on our new path, examining our values, our wants and needs, what we see as so important that they influence and define our lives.

Now we look at how our wants and needs have changed, as our perceptions and understanding of our selves has changed.

The paradox? In order to change our lives, we first had to be able to find our own truth, what was real, what was necessary to us, what we valued, and what we wanted in our lives.

We had to define those things; not let others or our situation or our circumstances define them for us. In doing that we were freed, and able to move forward in the cycle of change.

Now we have to see and understand what is needed by all of us, what collectively we must demand. Our personal values must be the needs of all.

First we had to learn to separate ourselves from the needs of others in order to find our own needs. Having done that, we now have to find values that meet the needs of others including ourselves. Of us all.

A paradox?

Perhaps, but having grown we can now see the bigger picture, we can now see that everyone is in this (life, world, situation) together, and that our personal needs and desires cannot, and will not, be met.

We have to find the fulfillment of ourselves through the needs of all of us.

Through doing our part, our duty, our service to the whole, to Mankind.

That perhaps is the paradox.

If you ask the questions:

  • Where am I?
  • What am I going through?
  • Where am I going?
you come to the inevitable:
  • What did I value?
  • What do I value?
  • What will I value?
This last is difficult for you need to come to terms with what is essential and important to where you are going.

In the light of simplifying, perhaps it is yourself, and only yourself.

If values = fulfillment, we have seen what happens if you depend on others or external things for your quality of life.

Some years ago I was told that we collectively were approaching a point that we had reached many times before in history, both the known and the unknown.

When we reached that point, so I was told, we either had to go forward into a place that we had never been before, or we would fall back into the old inevitable patterns once again.

This is the burden of those who remember, to see the signs and the needs, and to try and awaken others to this.

In terms of civilizations, a period of dynamic growth has always led to stagnation, decline and fall, and a being replaced by the next wave. Thus Egypt gave way to Persia which gave way to Greece, to Rome, to Europe, to America . . . to what?

If we are not careful we may find out.

Life is not linear, it consists of circles and cycles . . . except if you consider it as a spiral.

A spiral is a circle that goes higher at each turn rather than simply going back to the beginning and around the same track again. It goes forward reaching for higher levels and much more in life, each turn a new phase, a new part of life.

Kind of what we have been talking about through Volume 1.

To go where Mankind has never gone before.

Or have we?

Perhaps this is the culmination of an immense circle leading us back to where we began eons ago.

The point I mentioned earlier, the one where we have the option or the need to go forward?

We have reached it.

We have to go into a way of being that has never previously occurred, at least according to our accepted beliefs.

To paraphrase that old philosopher Captain James T. Kirk, "We have to go where no Man has gone before".

Not true, but certainly not for a very long time.

Now is the time.

The Age of Aquarius.

What I saw was that all of the artificially created lines separating us have to be erased.

These lines were created to manifest the "us and them" mentality, and to control us through the use of these "differences" to create continual conflict.

At one time there were only two categories . . . us and them. The word for "stranger" and "enemy" was the same.

"Apache" is a Navaho word meaning enemy.

Add your own insights to this list:

Race . . . Color . . . Class . . . Nationality . . . Gender . . . Age . . . Religion . . . Ethnic Origin . . . Political Persuasion . . . Sexuality . . . Job . . . Education . . Culture . . . Pro-Life . . . Conservationist . . . Fundamentalist . . . Power . . . Appearance . . . Clothes . . . Weight . . . Cliques . . . Ideology . . . Money . . . Technical Sophistication . . . Culture . . . Influence . . . Superiority . . . Civilization . . . Arrogance . . . bigotry . . . and so on.

All of the lines have to disappear, including the lines on the map of the world.

Look at the list of "categories" that define us, describe us, and broadcast to others how to respond to, and how to treat us.

Yet we are all connected, all one.

Six degrees of *Separation* link each of us to everyone else on the planet.

Listen to ourselves.

Why not six degrees of Connection?

Let's start the change now. We are all one.

If we all accept this, and refuse to fall for the old dividing lines, it will come to pass.

That vision is the most disturbing one I have ever had. The depth of the acceptance of hatred and the belief in the rightness of those presumed differences, is chilling. So is the rationalization that it is acceptable to kill those who are different.

The story of the Tower of Babel tells us of the time when our spiritual understanding and acceptance of everyone equally was first shattered into the diversity that allowed us to be divided and controlled by the few.

The Exodus from the controlling bondage in Egypt shows us that in order for us to break free, we have to use compelling violence to get those who have the power to give it up, and that the generation that accepted the power has to die out before we can find the new order, the promised land.

I hope that last part is not necessary this time.

If we are to go to a new world order, where we have not been before, we can start by looking at new solutions to old problems.

Notice that those who exploit our belief in differences do not offer solutions, only ongoing problems.

Thus Hussein was not dealt with, and neither is Milosevic being dealt with.

I am not advocating killing. That is a mis-use of power, and reduces us to their level. [See how easy it is to fall into the "us and them" trap? :)]

We are all one and all responsible for each other. The likes of Milosevic, one man exploiting hatreds based on intangible differences, is Mankind's problem.

He should be taken to a place where he cannot harm himself or others, isolated until he understands and is once more in harmony.

That is a solution.

We need solutions.

Many times in history and story has the following question been posed. In paraphrase is goes as follows:

"If you, or your God, are so powerful, then you or Him save you and your people, or smite your enemies."

If this were the case, there might have been a lot of smiting going on.

This question was recently posed to me in a workshop I was giving on Shamanism. the question was asked by a Russian whose family had been imprisoned. He remembered people, namely Siberian Shamans, being left to die, buried alive, to see if they really had power.

Those posing the question are the same ones who have misunderstood power throughout the ages. True power is not the imposition of your will and control on others. Or course might can prevail. But it is not true power, nor is it right.

True Power is based on Wisdom, and (unconditional) Love.

How can Love smite?

(The man who asked the question? . . . He didn't understand the answer.)

But then they never have.

When asked by a writer/reporter what the Native People called North America before the coming of the Whites, a Lakota chief answered, "Ours".

Shifting to a musical interlude . . .

Recently, on one of the lists I am on, the talk was about old songs. Someone happened to mention a song called "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

Back in the sixties, this was the first, and most gentle, of the protest songs . . . and the first song I learned as a budding folk-singer and guitarist.

It is a circle song, leading one back to the beginning. With all that is happening now in our world, and what we need to change, it is still true today.

For those of you who are musically inclined, try the chord sequence C - Am - F - G7, or A - F#m - D - E7 :)

"Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing.
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago.
Where have all the flowers gone, picked by young girls everyone.
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing.
Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago.
Where have all the young girls gone, gone to young men everyone.
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone, long time passing.
Where have all the young men gone, long time ago.
Where have all the young men gone, gone to soldiers everyone.
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago.
Where have all the soldiers gone, gone to graveyards everyone.
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone, long time passing.
Where have all the graveyards gone, long time ago.
Where have all the grave yards gone, gone to flowers everyone.
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?"

When will they ever learn?

GRANDFATHER
Written by: jrouam@lock-net.com

There was grandfather, his little grandson often came in the evenings to sit at his knee and ask the many questions that children ask.

One day the grandson came to his grandfather with a look of anger on his face.

Grandfather said, "Come, sit, tell me what has happened today."

The child sat and leaned his chin on his Grandfather's knee. Looking up into the wrinkled, nut brown face and the kind dark eyes; the child's anger turned to quite tears.

The boy said, "I went to the town today with my father, to trade the furs he has collected over the past several months. I was happy to go, because father said that since I had helped him with the trapping, I could get something for me. Something that I wanted.

I was so excited to be in the trading post, I have not been there before. I looked at many things and finally found a metal knife! It was small, but good size for me, so father got it for me."

Here the boy laid his head against his grandfather's knee and became silent. The Grandfather, softly placed his hand on the boys raven hair and said, "and then what happened?". Without lifting his head, the boy said, "I went outside to wait for father, and to admire my new knife in the sunlight. Some town boys came by and saw me, they got all around me and starting saying bad things.

They called me dirty and stupid and said that I should not have such a fine knife. The largest of these boys, pushed me back and I fell over one of the other boys. I dropped my knife and one of them snatched it up and they all ran away, laughing."

Here the boy's anger returned, "I hate them, I hate them all!"

The Grandfather, with eyes that have seen too much, lifted his grandson's face so his eyes looked into the boys. Grandfather said, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do.

But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times. It is as if there are two wolves inside me, one is white and one is black. The White Wolf is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him and does not take offense when no offense was intended. But will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way.

But, the Black Wolf, is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing.

Sometimes it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."

The boy, looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes, and asked, "Which one wins Grandfather?"

The Grandfather, smiled and said, "The one I feed."

A sad note before we get to our Healing Circle. For the past while I have asked for healing for my good friend Wendy. It seems the Creator has an opening in Heaven for a very special and wonderful lady . . . and Wendy got the job. She starts very soon.

Please send Love and light to her to ease her on her way to her new assignment

From all those on the Holly list of years gone by, Susan (Rabbit), Alice (in Wonderland), . . . from all those on the Feather list, Julia and all, . . . and from those who were the Wild Bunch, Avalon (Susan), Sue, Butch (John), and Judy, thanks for being our friend.

And from Sundance . . . love ya darlin'. See you on the other side.

In our Healing Circle, let us pause as we do each time to send to those in need, and especially to the Earth, our Mother, all the healing light and love we can send and they can accept.

Let us now refuse to accept the conditions in Kosovo, and empower a change and an end to this in the name of us all.

Bless you all.

Once again here is a directory of goods and services offered by some of the members of your circle. Let them know that you appreciate and acknowledge what they are doing.
